Our yearly Christmas potluck abounded with delicious delights as our gardeners are also talented in the kitchen: From chicken strata to mince pie, we feasted.
President Marguerite Bennett called the meeting to order at 12:20 pm. Marguerite spoke about Jim Nollman’s new book, WHY WE GARDEN. Jim had given a talk at the Grange Hall. The book looks interesting. Hopefully, the library will have a copy for us to check out.
Tori Benz-Hillstrom reported on the website that she has developed for the San Juan Island Garden Club. The minutes of the meetings will be posted there. The website is: www.sjigardenclub.weebly.com
There will be a new kiosk near the ferry landing. Fiona Norris has been creating a Garden Club logo using the fuchsia that Dot had found, but adding a border. The kiosk had room to advertise 8 clubs and the Garden Club would like a spot to advertise our meetings. The details are vague but it sounds as if the fee will be $55-$60.00.
A motion was made by Fiona Norris and seconded by Dot Vandaveer to have a place on the kiosk stating our meeting day and time using the newly created logo, pending final details and a one time cost to be about $60.00. Motion carried.
Dot Vandaveer reported that the Publicity Committee has posted information about our Garden Club meetings around town at: Ace Hardware, Christy’s Salon, Mullis Senior Center, Creative Passions, and the Friday Harbor Pharmacy. The information will also be posted at the post office kiosk once the Kiwanis club attendant is back on the island.
The yearly Garden Club roster is stuck in President Marguerite Bennett’s computer. She hopes to have it printed and sent out by the end of December.
It was mentioned that the last Saturday in March 29, 2014 will be the day to pick up plants that have been ordered at the Native Plant sale. Contact WSU Extension office if you would like to order some plants.
The next Garden Club meeting will be February 4, 2014 at 1:00 pm.
The meeting was adjourned at 1:25 pm.
